Non Graphic View

Hi.

I was just wondering if there is a way to exit KDE and change to the non-graphic "command prompt" mode after you boot into KDE. Maybe like a shell command or some other method?

Thanks for your help!

Yes there are ways. Type CNTRL+ALT+F1 (to F6) to get to virtual consoles 1 (to 6). If you want to go back to KDE gui, type CNTRL+ALT+F7 (or F8).
Also within KDE, you can have an xterm or shell, by clicking on the bottom toolbar for the terminal program. It will also appear there in the KDE submenus.

A little more radical is the following solution:

open a shell (console, xterm)
change user to root (su)
type "init 3"

This shuts down the X server completely. If you want to get back to graphical mode, type "startx" (works as user) or "init 5" (only as root).
