No Internet but LAN and VPN connect LAN work fine???
I have SUSE 10.0 setup. I had internet connection at first install. After some configuration I have lost that internet connection, but I can still ping every device on my LAN including a three building VPN recently setup. Below are the configurations I changed.
1. I gave suse 10.0 a static IP address (YaST2). I had internet after this. Next day I lost that internet. I then went in and saw I forgot to put in the gateway address in the routing tab. All of this was done through YaST2 - Net Devices - Net Card. I recently changed everything back to DHCP, took out the gateway address, now everything is back to normal. Still no internet. I am working through DHCP on a Linksys router. B/T/W, everyone else can still access and see the SUSE box from inside the LAN. The router gives me the IP address correctly. I have the default firewall running on the suse box, and i have even tried turning off the firewall on the linksys router.
2. I setup SAMBA for file sharing. I messed with the SAMBA server, and the SAMBA client. I don't have much experience in SAMBA!!
It can't be my vpn. This has nothing to do with my internet connection. The VPN works fine, the internet connection works fine. I hook the same cat5 cable up to my laptop, it gets internet connection just fine.

Be Well....
1) Since you're doing DHCP, are you also able to resolve hostnames? As in, open a console and try to ping www.google.com. If you can't, check your /etc/resolv.conf file to make sure you have some nameservers in there. Most of the time, your DHCP client will automatically assign you nameserver addresses to your /etc/resolv.conf, but if not, you may want to edit and put in some legit DNS info, or even point it to your router if it does DNS caching/queries.
If you see in my first post, I did have my machine setup with static ip and gateway (which is my router) and other info. It worked for a while. Then it seems after the samba setup, everything stopped. Why after samba I don't know but never the less.
Now.....I am an experienced Windows user, and only a little in Linux. I know, I know, but here is a question. I can navigate to the resolv.conf file, but how do I open or list it in the shell, or txt view? In YaST, I stuck in the gateway address (even though im using dhcp) to my router just to see if this would resolve my dns problem, but no good there.
Back to your reply, I believe the problem here IS dns related, so your on the right track!!
Just as a reminder..... The suse 10.0 box used to work fine with the same router, static setup or dhcp after first install. Now, I have no internet but i can ping and see everything else on LAN. I cannot ping msn.com, or anything off the network!! Its got to be DNS issue right?
