new install, disk is in read-only mode
I've just installed SuSE 9.1.
I have installed from this CD before, and last time it worked perfectly.
After the installation, I thought that I was supposed to reatart the machine, and this time it would let me set up user accounts and such. However I got a huge list of log file errors. I did not get a graphical login or setup screen, just a basic text login.
I logged in as root without a password (I hadn't gotten the user account setup screen yet), and checked the root directory. All the lof file read errors, mentioned log files in /var/log, so I checked it and there's lots of files in there.
basically, I think my entire disk is in read-only mode. I think I may be able to take it off read-only mode, but I'm not sure if that's actually advisable. During setup it said soething about being unable to create swap on logvol00, which doesn't really make sense to me because I didn't think logvol00 was even a partition, but rather a whole disk. Also, when I booted windows for the first time after the SuSE install,it gave strange error (didn't have time to read it). On subsequent windows boots, everyhting is normal.
windows and SuSE are on separate physical drives.
So, should I switch / to readable mode or just D/l and install SuSE again?
Thanks for any help, serious n00b here,
-Travis
