I have 9.3 Pro intalled. The computer has an MSI K8N MOBO with Dual 1GB Ethn ports. It recognizes them ok but I can't seem to get on the internet. My home network hase a Linksys router with DHCP turned off. I assigned 192.168.1.106 ans 192.168.1.107 to the nics ,and the gateway was 192.168.1.1 .

When I'm in the network configuration menu, I selected "Detailed Settings"

This brought up a screen where there is room to put a name in for the "Host Name" and the "Domain Name". Does there have to be anything in these spaces? I'm a little confused at this part. I'm not using this as a server yet. On the same screen there are 2 colums. "Name Server" & "Domain Search List" There is room for 3 "Name servers" and 3 "Domain Search"

For Name server 1 I put 192.168.1.1
Hostname Susebox
Domain Name Localhost.localdomain localhost

I entered my router's IP address (which is is the same as the gateway address) into "Name Server 1" I did not do anyting else. It doesn't seem to work with this config. Am I missing something?

When I go to edit the cards in the Suseplugger (Device Manager), I select either card and it saya the status "available" yes, "configured" no... Why is this?

I also tried turning off the firewall(no protection mode) not DMZ

When I edit my resolv.cong file there all that is there is:
Localhost.localdomain localhost
DNS 192.168.1.1

You are correct in that all you should need to do is set the gateway and name server to the address of the linksys. Are the two NICs you mention on the same SUSE box? If so, try putting one on another subnet or disabling it.

They are both on the MOBO. I did disable one and it still did not work. I configured FC3 this way and it worked fine. Don't understand SusE's problem.

I've been following another tread on a different board with a user with the same problem. one of their members says that you can't use the router's IP for the gateway and DNS. Check the thread out if you want:

He says I have to get info from a windows computer with ipconfig /displaydns.... u ever heard of this?

this is incorrect (even if FC handle it)

gateway ip address = router ip address
DNS = your ISP DNS server(s) IP addresses

Bull, there is no "burden" with statically configured DNS.

I have 3 DNS's provided on the status page of my Linksys router. However, none of these coincide with the 6 DNS's that I got when I type "ipconfig /displaydns" in windows. Which DNS's should I use? I've tried them all and none seem to work.

This is bizarre: you do have different DNS addresses in the router than in windows?
You need to enter the same addresses into the router and suse, this will make name resolution faster (but it is not necessary).

Try to enter only one set of DNS servers for router and windows/suse see which set really works (the one from windows config or the one from your router)

Yeah, I think I'm going to call my ISP tomorrow to get this sorted out. I think the ones onthe router are correct. I released them and then renewed them and they were the same. I did get connectivity for a little with those settings but I couldn't search on google, it would time out. Also I couldn't connect to Suse to update, it would time out. I've tried both ports and they ping everyting on my network fine, it's just getting outside of it that is a bitch.
