Multiple entries in KDE menu

I have a strange problem with multiple entries i my KDE menu. In the Multimedia section for instance I have to Volume control entries, two Video player, two audio player, and so on. But in the menueditor I only see one entries for each program...
Have anyone experienced the same problem?

have you installed newer versions of those applications that you see doubled in your menu system from new source ?

I know sometimes if you install a newer version of the program from source and don't remove the old one it will double up.

You should still be able to remove the extra menu's out of your system tho.

i use slackware which install KDE in /opt which has the same directory structure are any other Linux system, look for /opt/kde/share/kde/applications and /opt/kde/share/applnk with several sub-directories, in other distros it will probly be similar only in /usr/share/>* etc...

i have extensively edited the files in there for KDE's menus, if you are knowledgeable about editing these types of text files that make the menu links you can make them point to any app and include custom icons too...

Gnome has a similar setup with the config text files in /usr/share/applications and they have corresponding icons in /usr/share/pixmaps

I have installed some newer applications, but not all, and anyway I don't see the double menus in KDE's menueditor, so it's not possible too remove them that way.

I have looked at in /opt/kde3/share/applnk and /apps but I can't figure out how they works. In Suse 10.0 there is no /opt/kde/share/kde/applications directory.

Strange thing is that the double menu entries only appear in one users menu. I guess that the menu setup files should appear in that users home catalog, under /.kde/share/applnk or /apps?. Is that right?
