in a console run "man rpm" and read.

rpm -i /path/to/rpm
will install provided all the dependancys are met.

the programs mplayer and xine are good media players.

i prefere mplayer for playing video files, but for DVD's nothing beats xine.

Xine should have support for those, so should MPlayer. MPlayer requires the Win32codec-all before it can install... so it should be able to do divx and all straight out of the install.

I know that I followed that, and it worked just fine, there is a Jem Report as well on the subject. Both can get you to the goal you desire, though.

run mplayer in the command line on one of the files that it is failing to play, and post the output here.

mplayer /path/to/divXvideo

mplayer and xine have divX codecs built in, the only reason you should need other codecs is for playing microsoft formats like wmv9
