I've been able to access my 80 GB Classic Rock .wma library by sandboxing Windows Media Player in Windows 2000 and XP for a while, and I saw in Mint that Banshee can play these files. I am also trying to get some .MOV files to play correctly, and VLC doesn't work.
Is there a less well known program with the codecs, or a backdoor way to copy the codecs out of my Mint installation?
for opensuse
do to LEGAL issues
have a look at the "restricted format" section of the wiki
and install the "pacman" repo and set the yast install and remove GUI to "Allow vender change" !!!
(packman has all the media that can NOT be included inside the new "iron curtain" of copyright/patent maximalists called the US of A )
I followed the Codecs openSUSE page to the openSUSE-Community page, did the 1 click install for KDE & GNOME, and all is finally working. Now I can finally listen to my Beatles and Pink Floyd in Banshee under openSUSE.
Six year old mystery solved.
