Monitor display settings on laptop
 

I have installed Suse 10.1 on my work laptop, a Latitude D510. I also have a Dell flatpanel monitor and a wireless keyboard. I would like to configure my laptop so that I can close it and set it aside, while using the laptop as a desktop with the keyboard and monitor. (And, yes, it would be plugged in.)

Should be simple enough. I know there is some way to set this up, but I can't find it by googling, searching Linux Questions, searching the Suse help, or just hunting around. Right now, when I close my laptop I go into screen lock. How do I configure my laptop so that closing the lid does nothing? Or better yet, switches from dual monitor (not clones) to single monitor with the highest possible resolution?

There can be several ways to get this going but may be limited based on the hardware itself. But this one from one of the links should point you in the right direction.

Biggest hurdle is to get the vga port active. Most use a Func key but may or may not work unde linux. To see if the key can be seen open a terminal session and run the command ' xev '. Now press the regular key for external monitor and see if it is see as a keycode. From here I am not sure where to go. Done it on my notebook a long time ago and forgot what I did myself.
