Minimum installation with X windows

I need to install the bare minimum packages of Suse 9.1, but include X windows and Samba. Is there anywhere that lists these minimum packages needed to run kde?? Is kde the the most economical desktop available in 9.1? Also where can I find out which processes are not needed when kde is running?

Cheers

Matt

welcome to LQ!! :)

it depends on what you mean by "economical"... if you mean light on your resources, then kde is the last thing you would want... try fluxbox, xfce, icewm, blackbox, or something along those lines if you want something light...

http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/

http://www.xfce.org/

http://www.icewm.org/

http://blackboxwm.sourceforge.net/

as for the processes, you could post them here and then someone can take a look and give you feedback if you want... just post the output of:
Code:

ps aux
