Keyboard malfunction in SUSE11 after using VMWare Server

Hi all,

I've got a problem in OpenSUSE11 which seems to be related to VMWare Server somehow.

Whenever I use VMWare Server, it runs fine, but after using a Virtual Machine for a while then shutting VMWare down, I get strange behaviour from the keyboard. The problems are not always the same, but some examples are:

- Ctrl key crashes the active application (dmesg records a segmentation fault in the crashed application)
- Any keystroke crashes the active application (same)
- Shift and Caps Lock keys stop working (nothing untoward in dmesg)
- Num lock switches itself off, and won't come on again unless I toggle Caps Lock on and off first
...etc.

If I restart the X server, all is well again.

If I open VMWare Server and close it again without starting a Virtual Machine, there's no problem - likewise there's no problem if I release the cursor and do stuff in the main OS while a Virtual Machine is running, it's only after I shut down the VM and then close VMWare Server that the problem appears.

I've used older versions of VMWare Server on SUSE10.0 and Kubuntu 7.10 and have never had any problems like this. I'm currently using VMWare Server version 1.0.6 build-91891.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do about it? Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem using openSuSE 11 and VMware workstation.

A work-around until this is fixed, is to run:

/usr/bin/setxkbmap

this will restore your keyboard without resetting X.
