keyboard German

I'm slowly trying to get this Linux to run.

I am an English speaker in Germany so my keyboard is
a German keyboard
I installed Linux Suse 7.0 in English but it didn't
offer me the option to change the keyboard type to German!!!

I have found a /boot/vmlinuz.config file with strange markings.
Can anybody clue me on how to tweak this into understanding a
German keyboard?

Elsewhere I've heard of /etc/X11/Xmodmap. How to tweak it?

Many thanks.

From the K menu, click on Control Center, then YaST modules, then System, then keyboard layout.

Thanks, it works only on KDE2.
Now I've got to install a decent graphics driver.
Again I find nothing in KDE Control pointing to system drivers.
Any ideas?

1. Graphics drivers are deliverd in Xorg
2. If you have a ATI or Nvidia graphics card, donwlod and install them.

What do you mean by Xorg?
A website? A company? The original CDs of this SUSE 7.0?

I just did #rpm -ivh 24.3.2004-12-40-12xsis.rpm
and the GUI has evaporated,
back to command line.

And the 24.3.2004-12-40-12xsis.rpm file came with my mother board!?
There is something rotten in Denmark.

Win98 says it is a S3 Graphics ProSavageDDR but the literature says it's
a Savage 8 2D/3D Graphic Controller. Could this be synonomous with NVDIA or ATI?

Is it realistic to upgrade to Suse 10.0? I hope it isn't like upgrading from Win 3.1 to XP.

I have tried today to download a Suse10.0i386 CD1.iso file over DSl and it just stopped. Is this unrealistic? Or is Saturday evening a bad time to download?

Sorry to be such a pain.

Actually 7.0 didn't use Xorg, it used Xfree86.

X in both cases is the X Window system, a graphical frontend for unix, essentially.

Savage is a company, SiS is a company, both made onboard graphics. SiS makes more as well, savage only makes onboard graphics.

Upgrading from SuSE 7.0 to SuSE 10 would be more like Win98se(or even WinME) to WinXP. So long as your computer can handle the requirements, you can easily do SuSE 10. If they are too low, for instance you have an inadequate ram amount, you cannot use SuSE 10. If you meet the reqs, it will run just fine.
