KDE upgrade leading to problems with YOU
I recently upgraded to KDE 3.3.1 on SuSE 9.1 Personal.
Most of the problems are solved with some research and fiddling around. One major problem now is that YOU is advising of new security updates which lead to KDE reverting back to 3.2. What could be causing this? I am new to Linux but learning fast. Thanks |
I have asked two questions in the past couple of days but no answers.
Where is everyone??? |
How did you upgrade?
|
Something did not go right with your upgrade. I did it from apt-get pointing to;
rpm ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/ SuSE/9.1-i386 base update security suser-guru kde3-stable ...and did not have any YOU problems as you've described. |
I used YOU and system upgrade.
And source was ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/sup...1/yast-source/ This was done as per instructions on one of the forums here. Now YOU keeps trying to revert it back to KDE 3.2 |
Probably you downloaded the packages and installed it one by one. Dont know why, but I have faced this problem too. Currently, I am back to 3.2.1 :(

If you didn't drop down to run level 3 and kill the KDE daemon (rckdm stop), you'll run into problems like this. I did the first time I tried upgrading KDE.

The upgrade worked just fine.
Its just that the servers at SuSE are fully updated yet to show KDE 3.3.1. When i use the online update to check for newer software, then i am running into problems. The servers dont have the latest KDE. The online update shows the installed versions and available versions. The installed versions are the latest ones but available ones are the old ones. I have even tried to add in the directories where i got the upgrade from, still no luck. I will just shutdown SuSEwatcher for now. Deal with it when all of the available package are upgraded at SuSE. Everything else is working just fine. |
Commando464,
the online updates dont always give you new software, trust me, look around on suse's ftp server, it has alot of new software that isnt part of the online update |
