Question Kde Sound system mp3 support

I like to customize everything. In SuSE 9.3, I could set a custom mp3 file to play in the KDE system notifications section of Control Center when an event happened. (The default set of sounds is made of oggs.) I'm now using SuSE 10.0 and when I set an mp3 to play for a notification, I get nothing. I guess they took mp3 support out of the KDE sound system. Any way I can get mp3 support in the KDE sound system?

Well I know that Amorak will play Mp3s out of the box.
Odd thing is that if you install Xmms using the packages supplied on the Suse 10 Installation disks.
Xmms installs, but it won't play Mp3s.
You need to download and install xmms-lib-mad for xmms to play mp3s.

So there is definitely something funny going on as far as mp3 support is concerned.

Just update XMMS from Packman or Guru RPM repositories and then it'll be fine.

I know Amarok plays mp3s out of the box. It uses the Helix engine by default which has everything you need to play mp3. What I want is the ability to play an mp3 file through the kde sound system (ie, arts) for system events.
