Angry Kaffeine and Real dont play avi?

Downloaded a video in .avi format and both Real player and Kaffeine wont play it!

both just show a black screen and video time is fast (goes from 1min to 10min in seconds)

P.S.- is there a program to convert to .mp4(PSP,iPod) video file for linux?

Thankz for the Help

You have the latest w32codec-all, right?

avi is a container. That means that it holds the audio and video in a single file. The video itself could have been encoded with any number of codecs (ie xvid, divx, mpeg4, etc). Probably you don't have the correct codecs installed. Try w32codec

You can get a SuSE w32codec RPM from http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/ and if my memory serves me at packman.

Add packman to your installation sources, then just go to your Software Management and install MPlayer and Mplayer plugin. It resolves all AVI, MPG, WMV, Quicktime, etc formats and integrates w/ Firefox also. It does wonders.

Go to Control Centers/YastModules/Software/Installation Source and add the following path:

Choose http then use "packman-iu.bremen.de" for server and path as "suse/10.0/"

Click Refresh On for all internet sources you have and click Finish.

Then go into Software Management and search for mplayer

Sorry for not being clear.

i just tried this since i've been having the same issue as the thread starter and i couldn't get it to work. It said it was unable to create installation source. I put in "packman-iu.bremen.de" for server name and "suse/10.0/" for directory on server.

edit: it worked when i put a "/" in front of "suse/10.0/"

thanks for the help!!!

If refresh is on everytime you go into your packages it will take awhile for it is connecting to the site and updateing your package database. I usualy turn off refresh until I am ready to update the packages.
and yes it can take a long time depending on how fast your internet connection is.
