Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

You might try using a slower write speed. I have a similar problem with some brands of disks, so will tell them to write at 2x, and they usually work, but there have been a couple of brands that I just gave up on, because I really don't need that many coasters.
I had a similar problem, and when I switched to Kwin instead of Beryl as my desktop manager it didn't error. There was a newer version of K3B, and that fixed it. Packman's repository had one that was pre-released, x.x-00 if I recall correctly, that had issues and was never meant to be released, it had too many issues or something like that. Anyway, try the newest version, and even try getting it from the K3B website. It's at least worth a shot.
