just installed libxine1 and now kdetv "cannot find xserver"

OK I'm full of newbie-like questions. kdetv was working fine until I installed libxine1. I needed libxine1 to play dvd's. It required 2 dependencies, speex and w32codec-all. I can now play dvd movies but kdetv stopped working. When I try and start kdetv from a command line it says "cannot find xserver". I need someone to point me in the right direction to fix this.
