Joining SuSe10.2 to AD

I have been recently given the problem to connect Suse or any flavour of linux to a Windows Server 2003 Active Directory. I originally was trying FC6 but to no avail. I heard Suse was much easier but every time I try to join it to AD i get

"This host is not a member of the domain BLACKOUTSERV. Join the domain BLACKOUTSERV?"

I click YES, enter my credentials and i get the following error.

utils/net_ads.c:ads_startup_int(285) ads_connect: No such file or directory.

I have no clue why. Help is much appreciated

The samba-doc package contains two books that should help; Samba 3 by Example & Samba 3 Howto & Reference Guide.

They have step by step instructions.

Look in Chapter 7.3.4 of /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/Samba3-ByExample.pdf for an example of joining a samba member server to an ADS domain.

By the way, I think you also want to have "workgroup = BLACKOUTSERV" in your smb.conf file.

You can validate the samba package with the command "rpm -V samba". It will flag any missing files.

Joining SuSe10.2 to AD

I am having the exact same problem with SuSE-release 10.2. I verified the samba rpm and I am following the instructions for adding a computer to my domain. If a solution has been found, I would appreciate knowing about it.

any solution found?

Hello, it seems as though I am having the same exact problem. I have joined several SUSE boxes successfully to AD, but for some reason, I cannot on this one I am working on. I am getting... " [2007/07/09 11:47:15, 0] utils/net_ads.c:ads_startup_int(285)
ads_connect: No such file or directory"
Please let me know if anybody has found the solution to this problem.
Thanks in advance!
