internal modem configuration

I am new to linux. Recently I installed suse linux 10.1 . I have an internal modem which is working fine in windows. I am unable to configure the same in linux. Suse has recognised the same as smartlink PCI 56k modem. my system configuration is AMD 1800+/256 mb /40GB. Can anybody guide me with the step by step procedure of configuring the modem and make the dial up connection
