Installing python3 on SLES 11Readline issues

Not sure if there is anyone out there that may be able to help. I am trying to install python 3.2.3 on SLES 11. It appears to install ok but when I run python3 in the gnome terminal I get the following message;

Python 3.2.3 (default, Jan 5 2013, 21:53:35)
[GCC 4.3.2 [gcc-4_3-branch revision 141291]] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/etc/pythonstart", line 7, in <module>
import readline
ImportError: No module named readline

I have run the install from source running the commands;
./configure
make
sudo make install

When I do run a make test I receive the following message relating to readline,

Python build finished, but the necessary bits to build these modules were not found:
_curses _curses_panel _dbm
_gdbm _sqlite3 _ssl
_tkinter bz2 zlib
To find the necessary bits, look in setup.py in detect_modules() for the module's name.

Failed to build these modules:
readline

Anyone got any ideas on this please.

Thanks

Jake

Looks like you're missing several development packages, they'll be named something like <name>-devel. Any reason you won't/can't use a prebuilt package like the ones here?:- http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...?query=python3

Hi kbp

I have tried from these pre configured RPMs before an they did not work.

On the ones on the link you have provided there are no key errors.

Thanks

So you need to work out if you trust the packager, if you do then install the key.
