Installing openSUSE on an older computer
I'm looking to upgrade from my older Ubuntu release, and I heard that openSUSE is a good distro. My concern is how well openSUSE 11.1 might run on my older computer, which ran a little slowly on Ubuntu 7.04. The computer I'm using has about 300 MB of RAM, so I get the feeling that a standard installation of KDE or GNOME might be too much for it. Does someone have a recommendation for this situation?

I don't think it is a distribution problem but more related to the desktop environment you choose to use.
You may wish to try using xfce, or another light weight GUI. |
You can select XFCE4 as your desktop environment during the installation.

Is XFCE4 included with a liveCD download of openSUSE? Do you know how well it works? (Thanks for the replies)

In the Live CD Versions you have two options KDE or GNOME
You have to install later or use the install DVD |
|
If you have the DVD during installation , you can choice with programs to install and with GUI
You have to do that at the moment opensuse comes with a install proposal |
