install error message

hello,

I have just tried to install suse 9.something and the boot loader told me:

"Nice Computer, you are trying to install 32-bit software on a 64-bit hardware"

But i dont have 64 bit hardware (i dont think), so i tried to install opensuse 10.0 and i get an error messgage saying:

"Boot loader, could not find kernel image: linux64"

My processor is an amd sempron 3000+. I thought it was a 32-bit processor and it was certainly priced that way, and iirc boxed as 32bit. Am i wrong and its 64bit?

I have just forced it to load 32bit kernel, will this cause me any problems? (its sitting at the language select screen now)

You can freely install 32 bit software on 64-bit hardware.. All processors have x86_64 support. Which means they are 64 bit with 32 bit support.

By the way, are you using socket 754 ? with amd sempron ? If so.. then it is quite possible it is 64 bit.

It is socket 754. It was a mobo + cpu bundle from local electronics shop. I think they have given me the wrong package, it was definetly supposed to be a 32bit system. I guess i should get the 64bit version. Thanks for the help
