Icon of Internet connection ? How to see it in Suse ?

15-August - 2005.
Hello everybody, and SlackerLX,
Ok SlackerLX, I try to be clearer .

1 When I start Internet connection, in Windows, I can see,(by a little icon), if bytes are going to Internet or coming in my PC, because this icon becomes blue, during activity ( for example , when I open a new page with Mozilla, or when I make any download, this icon becomes blue ).
When there is no activity, ( when I do not open any page with the browser, for example) this icon is black.
This icon it stay at right, in the bootom of my desktop, and it has the shape of 2 screens together.

I would like to see this icon, also in Suse
( becouse I do not see it when I connect to Internet with Suse )
to be able of understanding when bytes are passing from my PC to Internet, and from Internet to my Pc.

Xp cannot see Suse's partition: Ok

But I would like that also Suse (wouldn't) do not see Xp's partition: is it possible ?
If I make a new installation with the CD of XP, I can delete and create new partition : if I install Suse in a partition created by XP, then Suse shouldn't see XP's folders !!!?? ............ I suppose ....!!!! ?

Best Regards to All and expecially to SlackerLX !

You need some kind of monitoring application to enable you to watch the netowrk connection.
gkrellm is easiest to use - though there are others like gdesklets.

XP will not see your SuSE partition. Windows likes to pretend no other OS exists. If you want to be able to see your SuSE partition from XP then you'll need a program called explore2fs.

Hope this helps.

There is also knemo for displaying an icon like the one xp have.
You can find it in apps.kde.org. (I think it depends on kde 3.3).

If you want suse not to see xp's partition, go to /etc/fstab and remove the line referring to the xp's partition. You need to be root to edit it.
There is no reason reinstalling xp or whatever you say above.
