Hi I am totally new to Linux, pleased to join your community. I am trying to add greek fonts and I saw in Help that I should copy the .TTF file in fonts:///. The problem is that paste doesn't work when I hit it. What am I doing wrong (btw what does the small lock emblem on the font files mean?). Thanks ppl

You should copy(as root)your fonts to the /usr/share/fonts folder preferably under a custom one so you may keep track of what other fonts you installed.

e.g., I've created a folder called my_fonts under /usr/share/fonts and i put my custom fonts there.

The lock means read-only access, you can't write to it.

..but I still couldn't paste the fonts in the folder /usr/share/fonts or create a new folder there. Maby what you said in parentheses "copy(as root)" has something to do with that. How do I copy as root. Many thanks

Open terminal, type 'su', give the root password, and type 'konqueror' if KDE or 'nautilus' if Gnome and then copy the fonts.

but I still can't do it. I want to understand a bit better what I am doing so that I don't sound so stupid. Btw I use Gnome and suse 10.2 . So I open the /usr/share/fonts folder in the file browser , i right click the mouse there, open the terminal, type su and give the password. Then I type nautilus but nothing happenes.

then i try to copy the files in the folder(i mean like i did in windows, right-click - copy -edit - paste). is this what you mean or I was supposed to do it from the terminal? These sound rediculous probably but believe it or not I haven't found a tutorial that explains very simple things like that. Everything starts a stage higher than that of the total beginner. Open terminal on desktop, then do as my above post and copy using the normal right-click thing in nautilus.
