I can’t transfer files from my Windows machine to my Linux box.

From my Linux computer I have no problems transferring files, from and to, my Windows machine. From my Windows system I can transfer files from Linux but, I can’t transfer any files to Linux. I get the message “Cannot find the specified file.”

What are the permissions of that linux directory that your coping too? Are you using an NFS share or is it a network share?

Well, well, well mijohnst, thank you very much. I spent a couple of hours looking over the documentations yet, it was so simple. Of course when you don’t know something it’s not that simple.

The permissions for Group and Others were set to ‘Can View Content’. I changed both to Can View & Modify Content and that corrected the problem.

Now under Share, it is set to ‘Not Shared’, should I set it to ‘Shared’?

When you say "Not Shared" and "Shared" what context are you talking about? Perrmissions and share are two diffrent things.

When I right click on a directory and select properties, the window has 4 tabs, General, Permissions, Meta Info and Share. It’s under the Share tab that I can select Shared or Not Shared.

So, with it on "not shared" you can still get to the files you need? What OS are you view what you're discribing from? Sorry for the questions... Just trying to get a better understanding.

My Linux box is Suse 10.0 and my Windows machines are Windows XP. Everything is working fine so I guest I'll just leave like that.

Okay, that makes sense... It looks like you're not getting to your folder through a network using Samba so I'd just leave it alone.

I was having the exact same problem and it took me weeks to figure out about the permissions thing. I have tried everything getting this to work.

I felt really dumb when I did find the permissions and got things to work so simply. Sometimes the obvious is not obvious.

I don't feel so bad as when I was asking how to do this, not one person was able to figure it out. I figured it out on my own, but mijohnst was the only one to give a good answer to someone. Good Job.
