How to update KDE 3.1 under SuSE 8.2

Hi, all

I want to update KDE 3.1 to 3.3 but also want to keep my old version. (i mean that i have a selection on window manager like twm, GNOME etc.)
I'm a new bee of Linux and have following questions

1.which window manager has SuSE 8.2?

2. How has this manager been started ? I can't find relevant settings in file inittab like
x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon

3. How can i add a new seletion on this window manager and where can i relevant script write ?

thanks
