How To Set GIMP 2.2 Tool Defaults?

I use GIMP 2.2 a lot, and find myself using particular tools like the unsharp mask frequently. Every time I start up GIMP, the settings for the unsharp mask parameters (radius, threshold, etc.) are set to some original default. Every time I start up GIMP the first time I want to use the unsharp mask in that session, I have to change them to "reasonable" values for what I am doing.

Is there some way to have GIMP save my unsharp mask settings (and the settings for other tools as well) when I exit and restore them when it starts? I can't seem to find any rc files that do this, and Googling the topic didn't turn up anything useful (of course that all comes down to the search phrases you put in!).

Thanks!

Your .gimprc should be in ~/.gimp-2.2. If it isn't there, create it or copy /etc/gimp/2.0/gimprc. Then tweak your settings, and they should be written to ~/.gimp-2.2/.gimprc.

Hi, nomenclature gets me again. Your answer is exactly correct (and thanks very much for it - it was most helpful even if not for this specific question). However, it turns out that I asked the wrong question!

Very specifically, I am interested in preserving the settings of my Filters over GIMP runs, not my Tools. The Unsharp Mask is the filter of most interest to me, since I use it so often. Thanks to your guidance, I located the master rc files for GIMP (/etc/gimp/2.0/) and found the master settings for all of the Toolbox tools. However, I have been unable to find anything equivalent for the Filters, of which there is an entire menu in GIMP.

Does anyone know how to save or set the default values for GIMP filters like Unsharp Mask?
