How To Get Surround Sound Working With Suse 10.0 Retail?

Hello

I have an ASUS P4P800E Deluxe Mobo with on board sound (Alc 850 Avance AC'97). I have sound and all is well, however, I would like to be able to have surround sound capabilities. I have an Altec Lansing 5.1 surround sound speaker system. All works very well in Windows, I would love to have the same capability in Linux. Does anyone know what I need to change/install/correct? Any help is greatly appreciated.
