How reset HOME directory in KDE under SuSE?
I have been trying for some time to change the HOME directory used by KDE, to make it a directory on a workgroup server rather than on the local machine. Right now the machine is a member of a domain, but we are simplifying our network by eliminating the domain controller soon and replacing it with a FreeBSD workgroup server on which user files will be kept for easy nightly backup. I have looked into XDG_HOME_DIR and other XDG variables; I have noticed issuing the "env" command notes that HOME=[local machine directory in /home/DOMAINNAME/username]. When I set the HOME variable to a different directory in .bashrc and restart KDE, the username can't log in-- trying just returns to the login screen. Is there a way to do this? And if there is, how do I specify a directory on a workgroup server (a server that shows as its defined workgroup when using Konqueror to browse Samba shares)? Most appreciative for pointers.
