Question how do i get permission to move file into directory


i want to move the pak0.pak from /media/QUAKE2/Install/Data/baseq2 to /usr/local/games/quake2/baseq2 but it says i don't have permission, how can i give myself permission? i thought i had permission already...

Are you running as root or as a normal user?
Are you trying to MOVE the file ... or copy it ?
ls -l /media/QUAKE2/Install/Data/baseq2 will give you the permissions on the file

You probably should look at this

If you don't want to read that, try man chmod and man chown, although I suggest the former.

i'm in root in konsole... but i was trying to move it....
