upon installing suse 10.1 it did recognise my tv card (hauppauge wintv dvb-t pci with old chipset), but it said can't load the driver (can't remember the name now), it was a tt*.dll (a windows driver on linux?).

So am i right in thinking, that if i find this file and copy it to the right place in Linux my TV card will work? OR is not as straightforward as that? Any configuration files need tweaking?

I am a newbie, so please treat me as stupid.

Ok I posted in your other post but did a check in HCL and not much hepl there. This is a better way to do it. Each question not related to one another be posted seperate so as no confusing down the line might happen.
Post the info from the command ' /sbin/lspci '
Also post the section of info on the card from the command ' dmesg '

Worst case is the default suse kernels have no support for DVB devices. Here you may have to compile your own. Only thin on this the current 2.6.17 releases are in a middle of a rewrite of the DVB section and not sure of thier status. May have to use at lease t2.6.16 to see if it is usable.
Post kernel version from commad ' uname -r '

I am running 2.6.17.4 on Kubuntu/Xubuntu(mix) with two pcHDTV HD-5500 cards, so DVB is stable in 2.6.17.

Ok they got it configured. Trying the build with 2.6.17.1. Haven't tried since with current 2.6.17.8

ok here's what i got for you to see... sorry not sure how to output to a file yet, although i picked what is relevant from what i see...

my kernel is 2.6.16.13-4

tv card is definately there i did /sbin/lspci and it spat out what we needed so i picked this line from it....

I then went to the YAST control panel and probed the hardware, it's there too with lots more info, in YAST control panel i went to the TV Card icon, and it's thee too, here is the info it shows:

Configured: as DVB Card 0
Driver: budget-ci, tda1004x
Firmware: not installed (ttlcdaxx.dll -> dvb-fe-tda10045.fw)
Firmware: not installed (ttlcdaxx.dll -> dvb-fe-tda10046.fw)

I'm assuming it needs the firmware installed, as you can see from the above it asked for the ttlcdaxx.dll when Suse Linux first found it but no firmware driver could be sourced at that time. It puzzles me that it asks for a .dll based driver when using Linux, maybe the dvb-fe-tda10045/6.fw is a Linux equivalent to the windows dll driver it's refering to.

So if i can get them, and put them in the right place it should work right? I will use MythTV too, seems a good choice.

Kind of wanted to now the ID of the card from dmesg. Read the following docs on your machine. ' cat /lib/modules/`uname -r`/source/Documentation/dvb/bt8xx.txt ' or change cat to your favorite editor.
Look over the other files there as well.

any way now this is where it gets weard so please belive me! kaffeine picks up this card but can not scan propley but get's dected as a TDA10045H. anyway in windows i installed the proper software for the DVB card which is the same as yours. and it works fine with the channels etc. now if I do a restart I can go into linux (mepis) and scan propley for chanells and watch them propley no problem at all. but if I switch off my PC completely it then does not work in linux, until I go back in the windows and use the card. hence I wonder what has happened hear, well it is windows hupplarge software putting filmwear into the card and when the PC is shutdown the filmwere is erased from the card. now I aint one for using windows as every think is fine in my linux setup and the software for the card on windows is a real ugly pice of software I have ever seen in my life. kaffeine is just brill with the card from when windows put the filmwere in ( if ya get my flow). I am just glad I can touch type (other wise I could not explain any of this)

so i gess i need filmwere for the card so at every time at boot up it put's it into the card so I can use it - would be nice

now i am gona tell you what kaffeine is doing while scanning

some times when I scan for channels ( no filmwere loaded ) it says that I have a 100% signal but no SNR

some times It can do the opposite the SNR has a small % ranging any where between 1% to 30% but it always changes but now has 0% signal

this is what I get in a konsloe when I open up kaffeine through it

I could install this hotplug through synaptic but it says it will remove loads of stuff shuch as mepis utilities which I need as I have some DNS problems with a few programs such as apt-get and some others but not all. I have to do that 4.2.2.1 thing

so I cant install hotplug at all as it will mess other things up for me (well it seem's that way anyway)


Deiz92 did you get it working and how. funny that I once used SUSE but suse 10.1 never installed and went gnome at some point and that was good bye. a few years back I started with 7.3 and used suse 9.1. makes me laf when I see screen-shots of the new suse's it has changed so much!

I am gona post how to get film where on some mepis forum some where. but there is 3 different forums emm i wonder which one

the instructons to do this filmwear are useless and expects you to know every thing about ever thing arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

and dont say Google is your friend. I do that lots with things that come out of the terminal. like dvbsi : Cant tune DVB

hi, yes i got it working in the end, i can't recall how i did it exactly now, i will look up my sources of firmware and where i put them

basically i got the firmware off the net, just the two files,
then put them in the right directory
then i use kaffiene, i needed a basic dvb-t settings file for the mast i get the signals from
then fire up kaffiene then do a channel search
and it should work fine

i will come back with the proper solution when i have more time, i'm just on the way out now, thanks for following the thread
