I forced my computer to power down and tried again , but the same problem occured.
I tried both i386 and x86_64 versions, but the same problem happened

Screen started to flash? Sounds like an X server problem. YOu are still able to get to a console and shut it down, right?

yes, i can use the terminal still and shut it down properly
but while in a graphical environment, the screen can just suddenly freeze and flash random images after clicking something
the computer then becomes nonresponsive

FOr now, change this section (I highlighted the change in BOLD):
Code:
Section "Device"
BoardName "SiS 660"
BusID "1:0:0"
Driver "vesa"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Option "EnableSiSCtrl" "on"
Option "usevnc" "no"
Screen 0
VendorName "SiS"
EndSection
Might be a driver issue with sis, so we are going generic with the vesa driver. If that works, then we can pinpoint it. What kind of video card do you have?

Other factors to look at are your monitor and screen resolution. are they the correct horizontal and vertical frequency? monitor resolution is able to go to 1280x1028?
