format and partition USB disk

I have a small USB disk. Suse 9.2 mounts it fine. But I want to format it and put a Linux partition on it. When I do fdisk on it, it does create a partition that I can use, but then when I look at the disk from the desktop, I still see the previous files on it from the FAT32 partition! If I go back to fdisk, I don't see the FAT32 partition listed.

What am I missing? How can I format the disk and give it 1 Linux partition?

Thanks,

SR

I've formated USB-disks using the partition manager in YaST.

After using fdisk did you create a file system? i.e mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda ?

No. I went through Yast when my machine crashed. I think I figured out how to do it through command line and will do it that way from now on!
