I just installed SUSE 10.0 on a Compaq Evo 1.7ghz celeron. As soon as I finished installing I ran the updates and installed everything.
When I click on the firefox icon on my panel I get the "starting firefox" box and my cursor displays the firefox logo but it never opens.
I've tried opening it from the menu as well and nothing there either. I tried to reinstall and downloaded 1.0.7 from the ff webpage but when I try and install i get this error: "./firefox-installer-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"
So I figured lets give Konqueror a whirl but I can't get flash player to install on that.
Oh I'm running KDE if that makes a difference. Also, with SuSe is there a way to use either KDE or GNOme? I had been using Fedora Core 4 and liked that feature.
I had similar problems. Just use Mozilla 1.7 it has most of the advantages of Firefox and integrates well with Mozilla Mail. (I could not get Thunderbird to work properly either!) You will have no problems then with any of the plugins with Mozilla.
I installed SuSe on my other computer (no problems installing unlike the computer in question). I think it might be the CD-ROM. I'm going to try reinstalling. My login screen on the Evo is grey with the chamelon while on my other computer its blue.
Also on the Evo there is no option ANYWHERE to shutdown or reboot. Hopefully a reinstall with a new CD-ROM will help.
You need to install libstdc++- 5 for firefox to work properly. As for choosing between GNOME & KDE, just disable the autologin feature using kcontrol (or yast).
In your home directory, remove the folder called ".Mozilla" (without the quotes obviously). That folder contains all your program data (bookmarks, extensions, etc) in there (maybe even info for Mozilla Mail -- if you have that installed).
I would just rename that .Mozilla folder to .oldMozilla and startup firefox. Firefox should recreate the folder and it should be like a fresh settings folder for it. Usually works like a charm.
You may even want to try that with your Thunderbid problem sdrambo.
Anyway, good luck. Suse 10 is the best version of Suse yet.
