Firefox vertical scroll bar problem
Hi I have Firefox 1.5.2 installed. I started off with Firefox version 1.0.7 (the default version). After I upgraded to version 1.5, I noticed a slight graphical discrepancy in the vertical scrollbar of firefox. The left border of the scrollbar does not move with the rest of the vertical scrollbar. After I let go of the scrollbar and hover my mouse over the scrollbar, only then does the left border (which was till now at the original position of the scrollbar)slide down (or up) and become aligned with the rest of the scrollbar.
In a nutshell the left border of the scrollbar does not move in sync with the rest of the scrollbar. Any clues? P.S. This problem is there only in the original theme and I have not seen it in any other theme so far. Also somewher in the Yast control centre (I use Open SuSE 10) there is a check box to sort out any graphical problems with firefox. I have checked it but have not seen any change. |

What does "cycle the X server with Ctrl-Alt-Bkspc after you log out and before you log in again" mean?.
By the way I have rebooted my computer after doing the changes in Yast control centre. Is it (what you suggest - cycle the X....) any different? Also thanks for your time and effort, Rex |
Not sure if this will correct your problem but I had the same issue. Are you using the default "theme" in Firefox? I had a different theme that wasn't compatible with the newest version so I chose the default theme and it fixed the problem.

I use Noia Extreme and the only vertical scroll bar is on the right. Things can be visually confusing when the cursor is in a frame. In that case I believe the scroll bar only refers to the page and won't move if you're scrolling within a frame.

Hey itcolfury, I have this problem only in the Default theme (really surprising), the other themes work just fine...
And fragos, to be really frank I diddnt understand a word u said: "I use Noia Extreme and the only vertical scroll bar is on the right. Things can be visually confusing when the cursor is in a frame. In that case I believe the scroll bar only refers to the page and won't move if you're scrolling within a frame." Well I'm sorry but I'm a newbie, so could you please rephrase the above... Thx, Rex |

Noia Extreme is a Firefox theme limited to that application. This theme changes icons used and adds them to drop down menus as well. Now the second part and bear with me if I cover some items you do understand. Frames on a web page are a parallel to windows on your desktop. Sometimes these frames have their own scroll bars. Many users use these visual scroll bars only as a visual aid and do all scrolling with their mouse scroll wheel. If the cursor is in the outer or primary frame the scroll wheel scrolls the entire viewed image. However if you place the cursor within a frame, only that frame scrolls or if the frame is totally viewable within your current window, nothing happens. |
Hi fragos,
Thx for that. (I hope I didnt sound rude or something the first time though; however if I did I apologise). Now coming back to the problem at hand... I havent tried Noia theme yet so I cant really comment on that but I havent had any problems like the ones you mentioned so far with the themes that I have. Even the vertical scrollbar problem that I have is there only in the original default theme and none of the othere themes (this is what is bugging me). Thanks, Rex |

You aren't rude, just in need of help. You are thoughtful to clarify. If you have more than one scroll bar in Firefox it is likely that the web page you're viewing has multiple frames and in addition to the web page scroll bar on the right there is an additional frame (web page window) that has a scroll bar because the fixed size of that frame won't allow all the frames information to display in the frame window. The other scroll bar is for the frame window data only. The one on the right will scroll the entire web page including moving that other frame without scrolling data in the frame. The two scroll bars are independent of each other. Depending on how the page was programed there might be more scroll bars visible at the same time, each for its own frame. If this doesn't help you post the URL of an offending web page so I can see if my assumption is correct. |
