I just installed Suse 9.2 64-bit on my Sager 4750 laptop. I assume that Suse installs macromedia flash player by default. I opened firefox and launched the website pctorque.com which showed me to install the flashplayer plug-in. As I clicked on it, firefox started downloading it. After few seconds, firefox closed suddenly. When I tried to lunch it from command line, it gave me an error message 'Segmentation fault'. Does anybody have this problem? I am thinking of uninstalling bioth the flashplayer and firefox and reinstalling them back.
Second, I was quite surprised to find that tex/latex packages are not installed by default by Suse. Since I made custom installation of the software packages, I looked for this package thoroughly. Being a scientist, this is very annoying for me. Will Yast be able to fetch it?
Any help/suggestion on these two issues will be greatly appreciated.
Go to the macromedia website and download the flashplayer installer for Linux. Decompress, and follow the installation instructions (very straightforward) sorry, can't help with latex, know little about it.
Latex is surely part of the SuSE distribution. If you do not find it on your installation medium, it will be available online. You may add any SUSE server to your installation sources in Yast and install the software through the normal Yast module 'Install and Remove Software'. For more details, have a look in the sticky thread about Yast update sources or here (works for 9.2 as well): http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=266647

abisko00,
Latex is not installed for sure. I was quite surprised. Commands like latex/tex is not identified. I shall try to install it from an online source.
joe83, thanks for the suggestion. I am familiar with flashplayer installation or installation from tarball source.
I guess there is some missunderstanding: I never said that it would be installed per default. That depends on your own package selection. No, what I said was, that SUSE is shipped with Latex, all you need to do is to install it. Additionally I said, that it may not even be included on your disk, but available online. SuSE makes everything available for free, but it may not be included on the downloadable ISO's. Actually these ISO's came up with version 9.1. Before, you had to download everything.
Thanks for the clarification. Yes you are right. Latex was not part of the ISO DVD image I downloaded. Following your instruction, I changed the installation source and found all the softwares I was looking for.
I also solved the problem of firefox. The problem is this : Suse by default installs the 64-bit version of firefox. As of today, there is no 64-bit flashplayer. So, whenever, 64-bit firefox is asked to download the 32-bit flash plug-in, the browser crashes. One of the resolutions :
1. Uninstalled 64-bit firefox.
2. Installed 32-bit firefox from firefox website.
3. Let firefox downlaod and install the flashplayer plug-in.
This time there was no problem. It is running without any problem.
