Exporting emails w/ Thunderbird

Hey gang,
How do I go about exporting and archiving my messages?
Im using thunderbird .8 20040913
I need to archive or export my messages because Im changing computers and need to save the emails. I plan on importing them when my new workstation is available.
any ideas?

if i'm not mistaking you can copy your entire profile folder and re-use that. but i'd check the mozilla forums just to be sure of that.

I copy my profile folder all the time as a way to back up my data.

I'm in the same situation right now (moving to a new PC) and I'm a little confused. I looked in this directory:

/home/tyler.mozilla-thunderbird/default/{HASHKEY}.slt/Mail/

And I saw a folder for each of my accounts in there. But is this ok? I'm pretty sure that one directory is a hash key and I'm just concerned about having that directory name be something different when I install Thunderbird on my new system...
