Evolution (Sending Email)

I'm using Evolution and can Receive email just fine. My ISP uses a POP Server. My problem is that I cannot Send mail. I only have 2 choices for "Server Type" in the settings:

SMTP or
sendmail

My ISP uses POP. How do I fix this?:Pengy:

POP is for receiveing email. NOT for sending. For sending it can be SMTP or sendmail.

You ISP should have told you whether they use SMTP or sendmail. My guess is they use SMTP as that is mostly standard. Go to:

EDIT > PREFERENCES > MAIL ACCOUNT and select your account. Then go to EDIT > SENDING MAIL and select SMTP.

Note when entering anything into the text boxes: case IS important.
Under Server Configuration enter the correct text entries for Host. (you get this entry off of your ISP).
Try with Server requires authentification (and if that doesn't work, try without).
When trying with authentification, under authentification try type=PLAIN and under Username enter your username in the exact syntax required by your ISP. Select remember password.

Note, in the good old days, one never had to authenticate for sending emails. But then people started abusing this, sending improper emails via ISPs. Hence almost all ISP's now require authentication.
