Unhappy eagle-usb Suse 10.0 Firewall - problem

Hi all,

I successfully installed the eagle-usb driver for a Sagem800 ADSL modem last night - worked first time, so I am well impressed especially as I am a Linux Newbie (VERY newbie!!)

My question is about firewalling the interface created. Using the driver from Sagem (3.0.6) obviously creates an interface (but I haven't identified what that inferface is called yet!). When I looked in YaST to check the DSL device it doesn't exist, so therefore it would appear can't be firewalled.

Is there a way of either allowing YaSt to recognise the device/interface, or by using a term window can I get the OS to firewall the interface?

Or am I completely wrong and the interface is being firewalled. I don't know if anyone could comment on the risks of an un-protected interface, but I suspect that might create quite a lot of comments/info!!!

Thanks in advance.

Steve

In SuSE 10, by default the firewall is enabled for all interfaces, which should include your modem.

If you want to test this out, go to https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and you can run a test on your ports.

If you want to configure things in more detail, as root, type in 'ip address show', and your modem address and name (likely to be ppp0) will be echoed to the console.

You can then use this interface name in the firewall configuration in YaST - if it's not in the list of interface names, just type it in anyway. (This approach worked for me in 9.2, so I assume it will be similar in 10.0)
