Does a new install of 10.0 destroy my /home directory?

I am attempting to upgrade from 9.1 to 10.0, using the 5 x CD downloaded ISO set.

It gets half-way through CD1... about 350 packages to go... and then starts giving a series of "package not found" errors from there on.

The CD verifies fine.

If I restart it gets to about the same point (but not exactly the same point) and then fails again.

I'm tempted to ask it to do a clean install, as there isn't much on my old installation that I can't recreate easily... except a large quantity of data files in my /home directory. Will it leave this untouched?

Or should I burn a DVD (when my burner arrives via mail order) and try that instead?

I personally would do a clean install. I've read too many reports of system inconsistencies after doing an upgrade.
I'd wait on the burner, copy your /home directory to a DVD and then do the clean install, which will indeed wipe everything out.
Hope this helps.

My understanding is that if your /home directory is in a partition different from the / partition, then you should be ok and your data will not be lost unless you don't pay attention during installation and let the installer format the /home partition for you.

It really depends on how you set up your partitions when you first installed SUSE 9.x

I always put / and /home on different partitions.
