DHCP requests - OpenSuSE 11.0

Hello,

I'm obtaining my IP address via DHCP (assigned via my router).

Looking at the system logs, it appears that every few seconds, a DHCP request is made.

This is an excerpt from /var/log/messages (computer name & IP removed)

Any ideas why this is happening?

Thanks

Where do you use you,re router fore ?
To connect to the internet or to a local server.

Hi,

The router is connected directly to my ISP.

The DHCP lease time on my router is set for "Forever". Perhaps OpenSuSE has a problem with that setting, and is not properly interpreting the lease expiration time?

If the router is connected to you,re ISP the configuring of you,re ethernet card should be DHCP IP = dynamic
Or did you set to IP = static in my opinion this used if it is connected to internal server ?

The router obtains its external address from the ISP. It may change every month or two.

The router is configured to accept DHCP requests, and grant leases that never expire.

This seems to work fine with any Windoze boxes that connect to it.

The OpenSuSE box, which is set to obtain its IP address automatically, seems to be making DHCP requests at an alarming rate, and I was just trying to figure out why.

I could assign the OpenSuSE box a static IP address, but I'd rather not.

My IP adress is set to Dynamic and works fine
Even my IP adress is more less forever I only get a new IP address if I have to reconfigure my router
So what happens to you is something I do not understand
