How do you go about changing desktop from GNOME to KDE? I've always used KDE, and I decided to give GNOME a go when I installed OpenSUSE but the configuration tools are a bugger. I'd like to keep Nautilus though.
1) you can just use gnome when selecting kde in the login splash screen where you put in your user password. 2) or you change the window manager by the sysconfig editor in yast or manually in /etc/sysconfig by changing from gdm to kdm.
if you don't see a login splash screen in the beginning and you have an automated login then you have to do it in the sysconfig. that's it.
You do this to change the default Display Manager: pop up yast. go to System>>/etc/sysconfig editor. Go to Desktop>>Display Manager. Change the DISPLAYMANAGER manager variable to kdm. Assumming you are using gdm. Then go back to Desktop>>Window Manager. Change the DEFAULT_WM variable to kde from gnome. that should fix it. Of course if you start X from the console then the first part with configuring the display manager isn't necessary. But it might be useful if you do use a X display manager. Hope this helps.
