cd and dvd icons disappear under normal user and root a

Seem to have lost both cd and dvd in kde

What can I do to fstab to make it see them again?

/dev/hda2 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/hda5 /home reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 2
/dev/hda1 swap swap defaults 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0
/dev/dvdrecorder /media/dvdrecorder subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
/dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs noauto,fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0
none /subdomain subdomainfs noauto 0 0

I would like them to act exactly as in MS winblows, where just my normal user can read write and execute from them.

Writing to a commercial dvd would be stupid and would not work so setting a write permission would be dumb, but what about the user having write permissions for the device to burn dvds or cds?

Also I wish for the devices to be auto mounted and umounted. I read at tuxfiles.org on this but it does not get into the other options like...

-nosuid, I think this is to set priorty though..
-nodev ????
-exec means that the user or is it root that can execute or is like auto run?
-what is cdfss
-'' is procuid

Any help would be appreciated.

Also my /mnt is empty so I created w/ kde new links to the devices and they still do not work

cd and dvd-recorder are visible under /media/.
Fstab is correct, as I see.
Try to use Yast2->hardware->CDROM to setup the cd and dvd again.

can you answer my questions about the other options there such as what is subfs no auto, does this mean it will not mount my sub filesystem on these drives automatically?

Also what about the section on dvd/cd burning?

Why is my mount empty is this cause it mounts from /media, that can't be though can it?

Using /media instead of /mnt is a Suse convention. I don't know why the developers chose to do this but afaik there is no disadvantage to it.
Subfs is a kernel module that is part of the submount program.
I also would like to know about the noauto option. It seems to me that this started appearing in default fstabs with 9.3. My 9.2 does not have the noauto option and cd mounting works very well. Why this was changed is a bit of a mystery.
Did cd/dvd mounting work when the system was first installed ? As keruskerfuerst said, you fstab looks ok.

Yes it did the came yast installations and everything mucked up, I have since reinstalled. It seems with suse if you do things in a wrong order it mucks up.

Say on this box if have several thing I need to setup first, updates, then apps (yast, packman, mail etc...), then customize, kernel, then the dreaded ATI driver. If one seems to do this in a different order chaos takes over.

Also, I found that not updating during the install causes a lot of headache.

I am quite curious to see about that noauto too! I am going to check now that my distro is working good.
