Cannot make a wired connection with KNetworManager

I managed to get multiple wireless networks managed under KNetworkManager, but no WIRED network.

But I can get my wired connection running if I disable the NM and switch to traditional ifup mode.

My thinking is that the problem is related to the way I set up my wired connection. My internal wired network card is an RealTek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. The driver wasn't available as part of the SuSE 10.1 release so I had to build the driver from source supplied from the RealTek site.
(See http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....php?t=460211).

I guess I haven't made some update such that KNetworkManager can pick up the wired device. But I am not sure where to start as it seems to be visible in the YaST network devices dialog, however.

Any ideas?
