Cannot finish installing MPlayer
 

I was trying to install MPlayer using these instructions, but when I did the search for mplayer in Yast, I typed in mplayer and libpostproc didn't come up. I searched specifically for it, checked the "description" box, added extra mirrors, and even tried using 10.2 instead of 10.3 in the "directory on server," but it's still not showing up. Part of me wants to just download it through a web browser, but I wouldn't know what the heck to do with it after that. What can I do to get this working?

suse has a real good player use your xine or gxine it does not mater what player you use the are all using the xine libraries. if you want the kde mplayer then just yast it but I bet you will find it is already installed as your embedded player good luck

I have MPlayer installed on my openSUSE 10.3 system and libpostproc is not listed (or installed) as a dependency for it. This means that MPlayer should install and work alright without it.

How do I install them? I searched for "xine" in Yast, but everything that comes up gives me a message that says "cannot be installed due to missing dependencies."

Well, when I try to play any video file (so far I've tried wmv, xvid, and flv), it says "Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device," then it plays the audio without the video. Is that because I don't have xine?

MPlayer has nothing to do with Xine (they are completely separate apps). Try changing the driver being used by MPlayer for video (Preferences -> Video).

Well, that has definitely brought a lot of progress. When I switch it to OpenGL, xvid and flv files play just fine (there's some audio-video syncing problems with xvid, but my experience seems to be that that's just part of the territory when it comes to divx or xvid).

However, there's still a problem with wmv files. The video WILL play, but when I open it, it gives me an error message saying "ERROR: Could not open required DirectShow codec wmvdmod.dll." The weird part is the video IS playing (even syncing correctly). And at various points during the video it will suddenly give me an error message saying "J-type picture is not supported," then the picture will be corrupted for a few seconds before clearing up (which is particularly annoying because when it does that it takes whatever window I'm using out of focus).

/usr/lib/codecs and I also on all system add /usr/lib/win32 then i down load from http://archlinux.org/packages/13071/ seems even though the systems gxine and mplayer that is kde embedded player when you get a codec that is not in the players plugins it is nice to have it look for it some where else. I have been using the arch linux esential codec package for a long time now and I use it on all my systems. all my videos work.
