Cannot Boot to GUI- SuSE 9.1

Hello,

Just yesturday I installed the distro on my box and after configing the xf86config a few times I got it going...I wake up this morning and it just won't boot to the graphical screen, it just prompts me to log in....so I do so and I get an error saying something along the lines of:

mouse driver must have a driver line

Ideas where to go from here?

did you use Sax?

hmmm. I assume if you've been in XF86Config that you've tried "startx" already.

I think it's complaining about your XF86Config file. My file has the following section (for a Microsoft mouse):

Code:

Section "InputDevice"
  Driver      "mouse"
  Identifier  "Mouse[1]"
  Option      "Buttons" "7"
  Option      "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
  Option      "Name" "Autodetection"
  Option      "Protocol" "explorerps/2"
  Option      "Vendor" "Sysp"
  Option      "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

I can't see any reason why you needed to edit this file manually. YaST does a pretty good job of these things. (in other words, you've got my curiosity. What was your original problem?)

My post didn't take the bold print in the code box... emphasis on the second line.

USE YAST

You need to log in as root, then just start YAST go to hrdware and choose monitor and graphical card...
If there are some packages that were not installed correctly, yast will prompt you for the packages to install (such as Xorg for SuSe9.2), then once you finish with those you will be in Sax2, from there make sure that the graphical configuration matches your hardware, and you should be set.... As long as the "test" works fine, otherwise you still need to switch one or two things.
Wenever you restart your box you should land on a nice GUI system.
