Can some one please explain this to me

Using suse 9.3 I was right in the middle of some important work when the task bar disappeared. So I decided to log out and back on. I couldn't. I tried to restart the computer and log in. It didn't help. Every time I tried logging in under my normal user account it would blink and then go right back to the log in screen. I can get into the root fine but I would rather not use that. But I did. First I ran the first suse disk and tried to repair whatever the problem was.. Rebooteed, same problem. So in root I force updated everything. Rebooted and same damn problem. You know all is fine and great when I research a problem but I really do NOT like having to do that when I am in the middle of some imprtant work.

This happened once before. I though it was a hardware problem, bad second HD. But apparently it is not since I am not using that HD and since it works with the root. I back up my data on sda1. But I haven't done that in a couple of days. I can access my /home/useraccount folderbut I just can't log in.

Any ideas. I am about ready to say the hell with this. There has to be an os that works well. Maybe I should have bought a mac. Another night out the window becuase of dumb ass problems.

I would appreciate any help or ideas anyone has. As you can see I am really angry and frustrated right now.

Thanks

Damn. As much as I hate to do this I can't waste anytime with this. I have to fall back on Windows and re-install it. Thanks anyways.
