Can NTFS and SuSE Linux on its own partition work??

Can a dual boot system installed on one hard drive with winXP installed on an NTFS partition and linux installed on its own partition work???

I mean, can you boot up into windoze XP even if you have an NTFS partition??

Yes

In fact at this stage the linux kernel is ok to talk to NTFS so you will be able to see your windows partition in GNU/Linux if you are so inclined.

Linux does not really have much to do with the NTFS partition, and it will almost certainly be on another partition type (such as ext2 or reiserfs) - and the same is true forr Windows on the NTFS partition, the two systems are separate so they don't really care what they are on, or what else is on there with them.

IN LINUX KERNAL COMPILATION there is a choice to support NTFS, so there must be an NTFS support

sajjadc, their is NTFS support. You can read NTFS drives, and writing is supported but very experimental.

Read what the kernel options says. Also check out this FAQ and maybe you will get a better grasp of what is going on wtih regards to NTFS support and linux.

yes, but the question is if you can boot, that you can

read support works more or less (never had any problems)
write support has worked for me, but ... i wouldn't bet on it.

I'm going to convert the partition where I have XP installed from FAT to NTFS and let you know if it works. Thanks?

Umm ... when you say "convert" ... you realise that changing the format on a partition will nuke the partition (although XP is capable of upgrading a partition) ... it isn't really a dead certain activity.

Make sure you backup your data.

Yes, that's what I meant. I'm going to upgrade my FAT windoze partition to NTFS. I have Linux installed and it's working perfectly with GRUB but if the windoze partition refuses to boot up after I upgrade to NTFS at least I'll know why.
