Can't boot from SuSe CD on Compaq Presario
I'm trying to install SuSe Linux on a Compaq Presario (800 MHz Celeron with 196 MB RAM), but I can't get past step 1. When I attempt to boot from the SuSe CD, I get the SuSe installer, and then after a moment, the progress bar showing that the Linux kernel is being loaded. That gets to about 75% of completion, when the PC suddenly restarts, going all the way back to the memory check (POST). Apparently it will continue to do this, in an endless loop, if I allow it to.
I tried booting from CD2, which has smaller images for older systems, but the behavior was identical, so I don't think it has to do with image size.
Has anyone else seen this behavior, or have any suggestions?
In case it matters, there is a copy of Windows2000 on the machine, which I was going to leave in a 5 GB partition, but I wouldn't have thought that would affect anything until after I've successfully booted from the CD.
thanks,
Bruce
