Can't rip audio cd with Kaudiocreator in Suse 9.1
 

Hi All,

I'm having trouble with a new installation of Suse 9.1. I have a HP nc4000 laptop which comes with a USB2 DVD/CD-ROM drive. When I try to use Kaudiocreator to rip a commercial audio cd, I get the error: "The file or folder /By Track/Track 01.wav does not exist." I get one of these errors for every track I try to rip.

I've tried using Grip as well, but it ends up just ejecting the CD after trying to rip it.

I've got the CDDA Settings in the Suse Control Center to auto (/dev/cdrom). I have no problem reading regular data CDs. Trying to open the CD in Konqueror also gives an error "Could not enter folder /media/cdrom".

Any help with this would be appreciated...all I want to do is rip songs for my iPod!!! :cry:

I used to have a similar problem after updating KDE.

Take a look at the configuration in the 'encoder' section. The 'Encoded File Location' should look like this:

In my case, all the {} were missing.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't work...any other ideas?

This is one of most frustrating things about linux...this is so easy to do in Windows or Mac.

So how did you configuration look like? Did you change it and it didn't work, or was it OK already?
Why I am asking, is because there is a similar syntax in the lame config, that should make use of the brackets.

I changed the configuration as you suggested, adding the {}. However, it still presents the same error message.

The fact that grip doesn't work as well tells me that there's something lower level that is causing this error. It's a USB2 DVD/CDRW drive.

I'm getting pretty desperate, so I may switch to another distribution to see if it helps...

Where I come from, we call this "Shooting on sparrows with cannons". Another distribution will use the same programs!

EDIT: I just found out that you would call it "to break a fly on a wheel". leo.dict.org is great ! ;)

Try to rip from command line to see if the backend works.

As I said before, the error message sounds like it cannot create the correct path. BTW: does the message appear right from the start, or after ripping the first song? Maybe it's a problem of the encoder (like I said above, there is also an encoder command, that needs to be set in ther correct syntax).

Maybe someone else has a suggestion, too, but I still favour the 'wrong syntax' theorie ;)
