C Compiler (make command)

I'm trying to get VMWare re-installed after updating the kernel on my SuSE 9.1 install, and its asking for the location of my C Compiler. I know what the make command does, however I am unable to locate it. Does it even exist in SuSE 9.1? And if so, where is it located? I left the default install locations for everything

I could be wrong, but I don't think make is installed by default. You will need to go into YaST to either install it, or verify that it is installed.

YaST-> Software-> Install and Remove Software-> filter:Selections -> C/C++ Compiler and tools.

There are more packages also available under - filter:Package Groups -> Development -> Tools / Languages. You probably not need them, but this is somewhere else to look.

If you are trying to install something from source, you may need libraries and such also. Try changing the filter to search if you are missing a dependency.

... and if you are using SuSE 9.1 Personal, none of these development tools are on your CD. You need to install them from an online source. Have a look in the sticky thread about yast update sources. In post#10 I have described how (but you have to specify another directory).

We should make a sticky thread like this: Where do 9.1 Personal users find the development tools ;)

I can't seem to find that thread.

At the moment it's the second thread here...

Oh boy do I agree with abisko00 about needing a sticky for Getting Development Tools for Suse 9.1 Personal! I do believe I've figured out how to do it, but I need to take my comp to a place with broadband to download them all since I hear it's over a gig (nowhere near fun with dialup).
